Emergency Management Operations Dashboard Screenshot - KPIs for system failures, resources, response efforts

After studying a digital dashboard and supporting documentation sent to me by a Dashboard Spy interested in Emergency Management information systems, I've learned that such systems have constraints unique to themselves.  Here are some characteristics of emergency management operations:

  • Very often information regarding the emergency event is NOT available to managers.
  • Decisions have to be made quickly under time pressure.
  • Consequence of the errors might be huge – lost lives and damaged property.
  • Varying character of emergency events requires different knowledge and skills (specialized SMEs).
  • Cooperation and coordination of teams with different expertise is critical. This includes on site cooperation  as well as knowledge sharing through communication channels.

The main tasks that this system must do are:

  • Quick identification of source of system failure, scope of the crisis and its consequences.
  • Anticipation of potential evolution
  • Specification of interrelated risks
  • Estimation of resources needed
  • Identification of available external resources
  • Estimation of response costs
  • Archive  incident log into database
  • Evaluation of response operations after crisis

Homework: Applying one's knowledge and effort towards community-based dashboards is a noble endeavor. If you find yourself in a crisis management-related dashboard effort, be sure to browse through this list of books on emergency management.

So what or who is The Dashboard Spy? As his about page states, The Dashboard Spy is just a guy interested in the design of enterprise dashboards. He could not find any executive dashboard design source books (or even screenshots of real business dashboards) and so set about creating his own. Finally convinced to post his extensive collection of dashboard screenshots online, he was amazed to find how popular it has become. If you have a nice screenshot of a digital dashboard, balanced scorecard, or any business intelligence graphic to share, please send an email to info _at_ dashboardspy.com. I’ve browsed your site with interest looking for dashboards corresponding with fire department KRI’s, PI’s, +/or KPI’s.

If too narrow an application then dashboards for emergency services, public agencies, response to service requests, etc…

If you can steer me towards some samples it would be most appreciated.
