Construction Project Management Dashboard - tracking job site conditions, activities, team messages

The construction industry has always paid huge attention to project management. It’s an area where dependencies between activities and availability of resources can be painfully apparent. Of course, we in the IT world have similar concerns, but somehow it seems more alarming when a fleet of concrete trucks roll up to the job site and you have them sit idle because the site is not ready.

A Dashboard Spy attended a Technology for Construction conference. It was held alongside the World of Concrete and World of Masonry trade shows (you have to LOVE those names!). He came away with this screenshot of a construction system management dashboard. It shows job site conditions via a local weather feed, web cam and job site photo. The usual project management details are there including a hot list of items with statuses shown visually, an activity task list, member messages, etc. The underlying enterprise dashboard product is from computerguidance.com.

So what or who is The Dashboard Spy? As his about page states, The Dashboard Spy is just a guy interested in the design of enterprise dashboards. He could not find any executive dashboard design source books (or even screenshots of real business dashboards) and so set about creating his own. Finally convinced to post his extensive collection of dashboard screenshots online, he was amazed to find how popular it has become. If you have a nice screenshot of a digital dashboard, balanced scorecard, or any business intelligence graphic to share, please send an email to info _at_ dashboardspy.com. Also check out The Dashboard Spy’s favorite books on business dashboards.

PS: If you find yourself part of an enterprise dashboard effort, you must study Enterprise Dashboards: Design and Best Practices for IT, the only book on actually implementing enterprise dashboards.
