SharePoint Dashboard Conditional Indicators

Some fellow Dashboard Spies and I were discussing the rising popularity of Microsoft Sharepoint server for executive dashboard applications and the topic of conditional formatting and graphical red/green/yellow status indicators arose. Were dashboard traffic lights available in SharePoint right out-of-the-box?

We found this nice video demonstration of how to tweak the Sharepoint code so that you do get red/green/yellow lights on a simple list:

The Dashboard Spy is all about screengrabs, so I extracted some images for you to take a quick look in case you don’t have time to watch the video right now. Here is the view of the color state images:

You can also use charts to do the same:

Great tutorial, but I have one problem with the result. In one of my columns, I’m using a person’s name, and even though I have the “presence indicator” turned off, once I make these changes in Sharepoint designer, the presence indicator shows back up. When it comes back, it’s on the right side of the name rather than the usual left…

This is a problem because it distracts from the status indicators that were my goal in the first place.

Any advice on how to remove these?
