Is My Dashboard Bigger than Your Dashboard?
On a recent business intelligence dashboard project, I had the luxury of designing for a dual monitor / large resolution screen size environment. The client, one of the world’s biggest financial companies, needed a performance dashboard for their brokers. Each broker had a dual monitor setup with 1600 resolution on each screen. Talk about a nice amount of screen real estate for an enterprise dashboard!

In terms of one guy’s dashboard being bigger than another guy’s dashboard, this NASDAQ dashboard, while big, doesn’t come close to this beauty of a dashboard:

Sometimes I wonder if bigger is really better when it comes to enterprise dashboarding. Yes, it’s nice to really see what’s going on, but what about using little interfaces to show the big picture.
Think about the little sparkline graph. See how much information you can display in such a small size?
